Tummy Tuck Surgery – Abdominoplasty in Utah
Some people are predisposed to carry a little extra weight around their midsection, while others develop a sagging, protruding abdomen after pregnancy or weight loss. Whatever the reason, lax muscles and loose skin around your middle can be very difficult to improve with diet and exercise alone. For his patients who want a slimmer, firmer midsection, Dr. Rose performs abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at his Provo, Orem and Salt Lake City, Utah area clinic.
Abdominoplasty can restore a firmer, slimmer appearance to the waistline and flatten the abdomen by:
- Removing excess fat
- Eliminating sagging skin and stretch marks
- Tightening muscles of the abdominal wall
About the Procedure
Abdominoplasty is the surgical procedure designed to flatten a protruding abdomen by tightening the muscles in the abdominal wall and removing excess fatty tissue and skin. Also called a tummy tuck, patients considering abdominoplasty have several options to choose from. If your excess skin is below your navel, a “mini” tummy tuck may be right for you. If you have laxity of your abdominal muscles or excessive skin, a full or traditional tummy tuck may be your best solution. In some cases, liposuction can be performed alone to produce a slimmer appearance, or may be used in addition to the tummy tuck procedure to remove unwanted fat. Dr. Rose will usually offer liposuction along the “flanks” area when performing tummy tuck surgery, to give an hourglass or contoured look. Dr. Rose may also suggest breast augmentation for women who want to restore balance to the body or enhance body contours.
Depending on the extent of your procedure, surgical time can range from 2 to 5 hours. At the Riverwoods Surgery Center in Provo, tummy tuck surgery is typically performed by Dr. Rose with general anesthesia. In most cases, Dr. Rose will have his patients stay overnight at the Riverwoods Surgery Center for their first night following surgery. Typically, a full tummy tuck will utilize a long incision that runs between the pelvic bones – hidden by a bathing suit or underwear – with a second incision around the navel. The mini abdominoplasty uses a shorter, lower-abdominal incision only.
Our abdominoplasty patients may need to take 2 to 4 weeks off of work, and up to 6 weeks or more off from strenuous activity. Bruising, swelling, and tenderness should subside over the course of a few weeks, while scars may take several months to a year to fade. Once you have recovered, you will enjoy showing off your new, slimmer midsection and flat tummy.
