Ear Surgery

Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and fourteen. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and otoplasty at our Salt Lake City, Provo, and Orem, Utah area practice can help children to avoid the stigma of prominent ears. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient. For improved facial balance, rhinoplasty for Salt Lake City men and women may also be recommended.

The Procedure

At our clinic in Provo, otoplasty is performed to bring protruding ears closer to the head, or to make large ears smaller. This is done by removing skin and tissue through well concealed incisions, and it is occasionally covered by insurance. As one of the standout plastic surgeons in the Salt Lake City area, Dr. Kevin Rose is committed to providing you with a cost-effective solution. He and his staff will review you or your child’s case and develop a customized, realistic plan for satisfying results.

Ear surgery in the Salt Lake City, Orem and Provo areas takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, and is typically done using general anesthesia. During recovery, patients will wear a bandage that keeps the ears wrapped comfortably but snugly against the head to aid in healing. Most patients can return to school or work in 5 to 7 days, but strenuous activities or sports must be avoided for 1 to 2 months.

Testimonials

My son and I suffered almost daily from migraines. We had all the traditional medications and therapies available from our neurologist and they either didn't work or had horrible side effects. Going through life always on medication or in bed is not a very full life. After some research we came across information about nerve decompression surgery and migraine relief through this surgery. Dr. Rose was the one in our area who performs this surgery. After meeting him I was incredibly impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. He is a very warm and caring individual who is passionate about what he does and cares very much about his patients. His staff also went beyond helpful and made us feel as if we were family. What a relaxing experience! The day of our surgery we also found a warm and calming surgical center that was full of great staff members and doctors. We are now nearly three weeks post op and so far no migraines! I feel absolutely wonderful and am amazed that I am getting my life back. Thanks Dr. Rose! I would definitely recommend Dr. Rose. He is an incredibly knowledgeable and a very talented doctor with a staff to match! Any one who says otherwise is so wrong. Thanks again for giving me my life back and also my sons!Jill Larkin
