Liposuction Surgery and Procedure
We all understand that there is no miracle weight loss solution, and that good nutrition and exercise are the best way to achieve a slender and trim appearance. However, for many people, certain areas of the body "hold on" to fat despite a healthy and fit lifestyle. For those who want to permanently reduce such problem areas, Dr. Kevin Rose performs liposuction in the Provo, Orem and Salt Lake City, Utah area at The Rose Clinic for Plastic and Migraine Surgery.
Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods. Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, back, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. For abdominal sculpting, liposuction is often a part of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Women who want a more balanced body frame also combine liposuction or a tummy tuck with breast augmentation
During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy," has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including the tumescent technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times.
About the Procedure
At our clinic in Provo, Utah, liposuction is performed to improve body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a tube and vacuum device. It is usually performed using the tumescent technique, in which targeted fat cells are infused with an anesthetic solution before liposuction to reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. Common locations for liposuction include the chin, cheeks, neck, upper arms, above or under the breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.
Liposuction procedures vary in duration depending on the size and type of area to be treated, but typically last from 1 to 2 hours. Dr. Rose will use general anesthesia for liposuction, and the surgery is almost always performed on an outpatient basis. After liposuction, the area will be sore and there will be some swelling and bruising, as well as small incisions that need to heal. You may need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to help with healing, but you should be able to begin enjoying your slimmer physique within just 1 to 2 weeks.
