Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Menopause is a natural hormonal decline process that affects women as they age. Menopause affects more than 3 million women in the United States every year and is usually self-diagnosable. However, in many cases, blood tests and labs are used. While menopause is a part of the aging process and has no “cure,” its symptoms can be effectively treated with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy at The Rose Clinic.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) consists of a range of hormone treatments that help to balance the hormones and replenish low hormones, focusing on symptomatic relief. BHRT helps to replenish hormones that are identical on a molecular level to the natural hormones in your body.

BHRT offers various treatment options that address the symptoms you are experiencing. Topical creams, pellets, troche, injections and oral hormone therapies are patient specific and may vary depending which is best for you.

What are the symptoms of female menopause?

Female menopause is a natural decline in reproductive hormones as a woman reaches her late 40s or 50s and she starts experiencing symptoms of low or imbalanced hormones.

Common symptoms of female menopause include the following:

  • Irregular periods
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Hair changes
  • Hot flashes
  • Chills
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep problems
  • Mood changes
  • Weight gain and slowed metabolism
  • Anxiety and depression

What is Andropause or “Male Menopause”?

Andropause, commonly called male menopause, affects aging men. Their hormones change and decline. Some of the common symptoms of male menopause include the following:

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Depression
  • Mood swings
  • Irritability
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Inhibited ability to exercise.

What happens during Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Treatments?

We begin with individually testing blood, saliva and possibly urine for your hormone ranges. We use ZRT labs for saliva testing.

Treatment options are individualized but may include the following:

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Topicals

Bio-identical hormone creams contain hormones such as testosterone, DHEA, progesterone, and estrogen. BHRT creams increase hormone levels that have dropped and ease mild to severe hormone imbalance symptoms. Topical or vaginal creams, patches, or troches are used to increase hormone levels. (A troche is similar to a lozenge. It's designed to be placed between your cheek and your gums, where the skin lining is very thin. In this position, it gradually dissolves, releasing its active ingredients directly into your circulatory system.)

Oral capsules

Oral capsules are also used to increase hormonal levels. They are specifically compounded for our patients.

Injections

Twice-weekly injections of testosterone are usually recommended to bring levels to therapeutic ranges and optimize your treatment.
