PDO Threads
Sagging skin and wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. For those who would like to reverse these signs of age and achieve a more lifted, youthful look without going under the knife, PDO threads are an ideal alternative to a facelift. This non-surgical treatment effectively lifts the tissues and achieves a firmer, more contoured and rejuvenated appearance.
What are PDO threads?
PDO threads have been used in the medical field for decades. When used as a part of a non-surgical facelift, these threads achieve a firmer, tighter, more youthful look.
PDO is a short name for “polydioxanone”) Polydioxanone is a durable and absorbable polymer. PDO threads are flexible, dissolvable sutures that are inserted under the skin and upward through the underlying tissues to lift and sculpt the sagging features.
What are the benefits of a PDO thread lift
A PDO thread lift provides a range of benefits for patients who would like to achieve similar results to a facelift without surgery. While it cannot achieve the results that a facelift can, PDO threads are so effective in minimizing or reversing the signs of age that they are often referred to as a non-surgical facelift. Benefits include the following:
- Smooths and softens fine lines and wrinkles
- Achieves tighter, firmer skin
- No incisions
- No downtime
- Tightens the jawline and reduces jowls
- Firms the neck contour
- Takes years off the facial appearance
- Results are long-lasting
- Lifts sagging tissues to achieve more youthful-looking features
- Defines the cheekbones
- Lifts and refreshes the eyes and eyebrows
- Dramatically resolves wrinkles and fine lines
- A facelift alternative for patients who do want a surgical procedure
- Can be used on a range of other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, knees, and others

What happens during a PDO thread lift?
The PDO thread lift procedure takes about one hour in total. We will start by marking your skin in the places where the PDO threads are going to be inserted. A local anesthetic will be injected to numb the area, ensuring your treatment session is comfortable.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect, we will use a cannula, a blunt-tipped needle, to carefully insert the PDO threads. The cannula moves the threads upward through the tissues beneath the skin until the threads are secured in their designated position. The cannula is then removed, and the thread remains in place, anchoring the tissues and skin attractively upward.
Once the threads are in place and the cannula is removed, we will massage the threads to ensure the tissues are lying smoothly around the threads.
What concerns can be addressed with a PDO thread lift?
PDO threads can be used to effectively address the following concerns without a surgical procedure:
- A lack of definition in the cheekbones and jawline
- Sagging tissues around the eyes
- Sagging eyebrows
- Wrinkles and fine lines on the face
- Banding around the neck
- Sagging skin on the face and neck
- Sagging skin on the knees, abdomen, hands, inner thighs, and buttocks
What is the recovery period like after a PDO thread lift?
Once the PDO threads are inserted, there is no downtime required. After PDO threads, there is a short recovery period. Expect some mild swelling, soreness, or redness in the treatment areas where the PDO threads were placed, which will fade within about a week. The puncture points (where the threads were inserted) require a few weeks to heal and will feel sore for about two weeks.
Who is a candidate for PDO thread lifting?
PDO thread lifts are for anyone who is experiencing wrinkles and moderate sagging in the face, jawline, or other areas of the body and would like to reverse these effects without a surgical procedure. Typically, PDO thread lift patients are between the ages of 30 and 55. However, younger or older patients may also be candidates, depending on the severity of sagging skin and creases or lines. Ideal candidates for PDO threads should meet the following requirements:
- Are generally healthy
- Facial sagging is not severe
- Are not pregnant or nursing
- Have not taken blood-thinning medications or consumed alcohol in the past three days
- Have realistic expectations about what PDO threads can achieve
- Jawline has lost definition and jowls are forming
